Yep, it's time to start thinking Photowalks again!! As I mentioned in my earlier post, I've planned another for Saturday 1 October and there's already a fair bit of interest.
This time we're heading down south to visit the stations at the southern end of the Northern Line and we plan to do more actual walking (weather permitting). We'll start at Clapham South Station at 11am and will head all the way down to South Wimbledon (believe me Morden Station is not worth a visit!). It's actually not too far and walkable (in a straight line, without stopping and with trainers on) in about 40 minutes. Once again we'll use the Art Deco London Map, and I have a few other things on my list - here's the initial plan:
Clapham South Station
Old Odeon Cinema Balham Hill
Du Cane Court
Possible detour to Tooting Bec Common/Graveney Common depending on the weather/time
Tooting Bec Station
Tooting Market/Broadway Market (also lots of interesting shops to look at on Upper Tooting Road)
Tooting Broadway Station
Old Granada Cinema (now Gala Bingo)
Colliers Wood Station
The Tower (although I believe it's now mid-renovation so perhaps less interesting)
Possible detour to Merton Abbey Mills
South Wimbledon Station.
Sounds like a lot, but I'm also hoping we'll spot some other interesting things to photograph along the way. I used to know this route like the back of my hand but it's been years since I've spend much time in these locations so hopefully there will be something new! If anyone has any tips for things we should see which aren't on this list please let me know!
Balham was once described by Arthur Ransome as "the ugliest and most abominable of London's unpleasing suburbs" so let's head out and find something nice! The Tower in Colliers Wood has also won awards for the ugliest building in the UK...
As with last time, if you're interested in joining us please let me know by emailing me firstname.lastname@example.org and I'll add you to the list!
