This Brutal World

Architecture, Books, Photography, Review, SheffieldKate Marsden

I was a very lucky girl again on my birthday the other week - two really fab presents from Mr M. The first I've already shown off on Instagram and the second was another thing I'd been after, a copy of This Brutal World by Peter Chadwick.

Now you know I like a bit of concrete... When I spotted this book on Instagram I knew I had to have a copy. All very promising from the front cover, but it's wonderful inside - a substantial picture book of Brutalist loveliness! Oh and any book which quotes Pulp lyrics and contains pictures of Park Hill is a winner as far as I'm concerned...

It's a pretty substantial tome, coming in at 224 pages - proper coffee table material (not as heavy as this one though!) and I can see I'll be wading through it, and sketching ideas for many months to come. Also a few more buildings in here to seek out and visit.

This Brutal World by Peter Chadwick, is published by Phaidon and available now.

In case you're intrigued by the other wonderful present, here it is.... a beautiful pot from Kabinshop - you can find her on Etsy here.
