Dulwich Artists Open House

Art, Events, London, Shopping, StudiosKate Marsden

I had a really lovely time last Sunday when I got to stroll around South London in the sunshine, visiting folks and chatting and shopping... Some of you may recall that I took part in Dulwich Artists Open House last year, but this time around I was able to take the opportunity to have a nose around peoples homes and studios!

As with all good things my day started with cake (or breakfast as it's otherwise known...)

This beauty was from the pop-up cake shop at Sarah Hamilton's house, where I popped in (for an hour and a half!) to see her, Georgia Bosson and Gabriella Szulman.

I then headed around the corner to Justine Ellis, who was sharing her house with Tiff Howick. Failed miserable to take any photos there (I was distracted somewhat when my glasses decided to fall apart). I did do a little shopping though (see below).

Then on to Anna Jackson, who was set up in a parlor no less, alongside a harpsichord (an amazing house).

I then made, a possibly rather silly, decision to walk to Jessica Hayman's house (Rosa and Clara Designs) - a good brisk 30 minutes with the sun beating down. I arrived to find a plentiful supply of much needed water! Jess was sharing her house with Alex Evans, Holoko, Oxx Jewellery, Samantha Warren and Kreisdesign and there was so much to see (which again I managed not to photograph - I blame my slightly frazzled state!). Have no fear though as they're one of the houses open this weekend (14/15 May) as well so you can go and see for yourself!

The weather was just beautiful...

Then a bus back down the hill to Havelock Walk, which is conveniently next to Forest Hill station.

Havelock Walk is wonderful - an atmospheric mews street with studio after studio running the full length. I could've spent most of the day there! I was really happy to finally meet artist Liz Atkin who I've known online for what seems like years. We we're feeling very summery...

Once I'd finished at Havelock Walk, I dragged myself over to the station and collapsed onto an air conditioned train!

Here's part of my shopping haul (I bought a fab collage from Sarah Hamilton, but it's already up on the wall!).

From top right: Tote bag and tea towel - Justine Ellis, mini cards (on the bag) - Sarah Hamilton, yellow spotty purse - Anna Jackson, postcard - Liz Atkin, cat greetings card - Tiff Howick

As I mentioned above, the open house continues this coming weekend, although not all houses will be open. Of those I visited, you can go and see Rosa & Clara and Havelock Walk on 14/15 May from 11am to 6pm. Visit the Artists Open House website to see who else is open and to plan your walk (or drive if you're not quite as crazy as I am!).
