Day in the Life - Claudette Cooling - The Cool Line

It's day in the life time again!

Today we're meeting Claudette Cooling, designer of bold, colourful, geometric digitally printed accessories for The Cool Line. Over to Claudette for a day in her life...

It's the start of a new week and although no day or week is ever the same in the The Cool Line studio, nothing can ever be achieved without breakfast and a to-do list. I am an obsessive list maker and even on the quietest of days… I'll make a list. It's my go to and without one significantly LESS is achieved and without breakfast NOTHING is ever achieved. So with my trusty to-do list in one hand and a cup of coffee in the other, the day and the week are ready to begin.

It's 9am on Monday morning and one thing I try to do at the start of each week is sit down at my desk and look through any emails I've received over the weekend and respond, as well as following up with any notifications or messages I've received through social media.

With emails tackled and messages answered, I do a 10/15 minute browse through social media, browsing through Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. This is something I try to do at several points during the day, but in a contained way. What I mean by that is everyone knows that left to your own devices you could loose hours of your life to social media, so to combat this I spend little bursts of time on it during the day. It's such an important tool and is where you can access so many opportunities, that it's important to make it important!

Social media fix achieved, the next thing on my to do list is to package and post all of the orders received over the weekend. Orders packed and off to the Post Office I go to post out all of the recent orders to the coolest people ever, The Cool Line customers.

It's 11.30am and I'm back from the Post Office and ready to sit back down at my desk and crack on with the next task. I head over to Hootsuite, a social media management platform to schedule in some posts for the week across the social media platforms I use. Hootsuite really is a time saver and I can't recommend it enough for focussing your mind and saving you hours you can use productively elsewhere.

After lunch, and after another browse across social media, it's time to do some trend research in preparation for the next collection. I am on the verge of starting a new collection and am obsessively researching for the next thing to inspire it and start the ball rolling. I try to draw inspiration from all around me, but am always drawn back to our old trusted friends Pinterest, Vogue and Pattern People. So whenever I have a free moment between everything else I like to browse through looking for that trend that will spark the next collection.

The Cool Line has had a bit of Press coverage lately within various publications and platforms, so today is the day to get them all uploaded onto the Press page of the website. It's lovely being able to organise all the coverage the brand has had all in one place, it gives customers a chance to see what we're up too and it gives me the opportunity to reflect on how far we've come in such a short time.

Last weekend we were lucky enough to be asked to exhibit in our first event, the Spirit of Spring event ran by Heartisan Events. A new product that was introduced for the event was Neoprene Clutch Bags from The Statement Collection. After selling out of our first run of clutch bags it seemed they were more popular than I thought! So back to the supplier I go to order more digitally printed neoprene. After receiving such great feedback and attention, the clutch bags will be a product I will be adding to The Cool Line website in the coming weeks and months.

It's 4pm and drawing closer to the end of the working day for most people, I am working on the last task from the to-do list, which is to compose a submission for an upcoming publication. From editing imagery to compiling a brand statement, every part of this process takes care and attention in order to achieve a place in the publication.

Submission sent and it's time to power down the mac and tear off the day's to do list ready for another day.
