I first tried my hand at pottery (if you exclude the rather strange ornamental pig I made in art class at school - I wonder what happened to that...) when I took 2 short courses at Chelsea College of Art a few years ago. I really enjoyed it but had other things to concentrate on so that was that. I am fortunate enough nowadays though to live a 5 minute walk away from a pottery and craft studio and just before the school holidays started I managed to organise myself sufficiently to have 3 sessions down there.
This little stack of embroidered pinch pots were the main aim. Here's the work in progress on them in the first 2 weeks...
They're just simply glazed in white and I've added stitching with embroidery silks - I have some of them available in my shop here.
In the third week I had my first ever go at throwing, and it was tricky! I made 6 attempts and got 2 bowls out of it (attempt 4 is the wonky one at the top and attempt 6 is the rather better one at the bottom).
I then went back in with my son during the holidays to paint them (he painted a one eyed monster!). He said that they look like the sea, which is good as that was the plan...
So masses of fun, and while I have to book I can pretty much drop in for a week here/a week there which is really useful (and means I'm more likely to have another go when he's back to school in the autumn).
