Once the new Day in the Life series got going, I realised how much things had changed around here since I last shared one of my days. The little man is now in the final term of his first year at school and juggling everything around school hours has at times been a challenge! So here's a new, recent, day in my life.
It's Monday, so time to get back to school and work after the weekend. My son wakes up as usual at about 6.30 and goes downstairs to have breakfast with Mr M (who is already up for work). I gradually drag myself out of bed and head downstairs to drink tea, and then coffee and then juice to get me ready for the day. I tend to also use this time to have a first check of emails and social media. As it's a Monday I share my blog post on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram before heading upstairs again to get dressed. It's then time to get the little man dressed too and walk to school. It's another lovely sunny day, but a little chilly!
Back home, I throw myself in the shower and I'm sitting at my desk by about 9.15. As it's Monday I start with the week's to do list (I used to do these daily but I've found with more compressed days that a weekly one, with certain items prioritised for each day, works better). Over the weekend I tend to put reminders for things to add to the list in my calendar for Monday morning so I transfer these into my notebook and decide where to get started.
I'm taking part in #the100dayproject on Instagram (more about this here) - designing a new pattern every day for 100 days. I get today's finalised and then post to Instagram.
I then delve into the inbox. One to do list item for the week is to have a proper sort out and go through all of my flagged emails - I discover that I have 90. After about 30 minutes I manage to get this down to a more reasonable 27 and I've replied to some emails that have been sitting in there for an embarrassingly long time. Others are no longer needed (in my old job I discovered that on occasion if you leave the filing pile for long enough, much of it becomes rubbish rather than filing.... I'm not saying this is a good thing!).
I then move on to schedule some tweets and sort out a few things for one of my social media support clients. I try and get the bulk of these tasks out of the way every Monday morning.
Time for cake! The little man and I baked a chocolate cake yesterday and it would be a shame to let it go to waste...
I then set about some shopkeeping over on my Etsy shop. I'm working on updating the tags and descriptions to try and drive more search traffic my way. Lets see if it helps! Turns out I have quite a few listings and this takes rather longer than planned...
The next job is to mock up my new stand - I've been planning to update it for a while. I don't want to change it too radically as I still want people to know it's me, but it'd been over a year since I'd really altered anything. I work on a new backdrop and play around with some new display boxes I bought over the weekend.
I also use this as an opportunity to play around with the new camera I got over the weekend, but it somehow lets me take photos without the memory card in, so I loose all of the photos and only have those I took with my phone. (Mr M advises me when he gets home that this is a demo mode which he hasn't turned off - aaargh! Strange sort of a demo mode if you ask me...).
Then back to the desk to process a couple of invoices and reply to some emails about the blog.
After lunch I continue with prep for my upcoming exhibition at The Brook (now on!).
I also start pulling my stuff together for painting tomorrow - we're due to start a new topic so I take the opportunity to sort my bag out.
It's then time to check the social media again before tidying up ahead of the school run. I do my usual trick of getting caught up tweaking things on the blog and then realise that I'm running late! I stick a brush through my hair and off I go...
After school we come in for a quick snack and then the little man wants to go out for a bike ride - he's just learning but has made really good progress over the past couple of weeks!
Then back in for some telly for him and another 30 minutes at the computer for me as I catch up with the emails that came in while I was out - I seem to be getting a lot at the moment...
I cook the little man's tea, tidy up the kitchen, sort the washing (oh the glamour!) and water my little vegetable garden (that's growing on the kitchen windowsill until it's warm enough at night to plant them out). The runner beans are growing so quickly that I think they'll be touching the ceiling before the risk of frost has passed!
Mr M comes home just in time for the little man's bath and bed, then we have our tea at about 9pm. I spend more time on social media in the evening - trying to be a bit more consistent with Pinterest but I'm struggling as I always seem to loose myself into a hole for hours with it! I'm shattered so I take myself off to bed at 10, ready to start again in the morning.
