Fabric Flower Necklace Tutorial

Some of you may recall that back in November I took part in a really good tutorial link-up organised by Laura Howard. You can see my tutorial here and her post about the link-up here

Now Laura has organised another link-up for Spring on the theme of Flowers. All of the tutorials go live today and you will be able to see links to them all on Laura's blog, so keep an eye out.

Here's mine. A rather fetching fabric necklace. I made this a few weeks ago and have worn it out and about several times - quite pleased with how it turned out. Here's now to make one.

I used some of my leftover pink knit fabric, the chain from an old necklace which I no longer wear, and three of my Liberty print covered buttons.

First, cut two strips of the fabric (as I used a knit fabric it won't fray).

Fold one piece to form three petals (hold them together in the centre with a pin) and make two petals with the second piece (hold these together with a couple of stitches).

Place the two petal piece on top of the other one and hold them firmly together while stitching through the centre. I also used these stitches to help shape the flower.

Take the largest of the three buttons and stitch it into the centre of the flower.

Then add the two smaller ones on either side.

Finally, turn the flower over and stitch the chain in place right along the back (so it doesn't move about when you wear it).

And then it's finished!
